When is it time for the speeches at a wedding?

When is it time for the guests to speech at the wedding? Before starter? After dinner? At dessert? How much time should all the speeches in total take? 30 minutes? 1 hour? I tried to google but find no information about this. I want really detailed information as planning a wedding here:)
The wedding will have approx 200 guests. Many thanks for help!

Firstly you should open your speech by welcoming the bride into the family. Perhaps compliment her and congratulate your son on having good taste. This will go down well with the bride’s family and you will make the bride feel special.

Next it is time to tell perhaps a couple of funny stories about your son. Have you got any embarrassing stories about him when he was younger? Ideally you do not want to mention any ex girlfriends as that can potentially spoil the day. Stick to stories from childhood and you cannot go wrong. Everybody loves to laugh at childhood stories and it is your chance to add a little humour to your speech.

Another important part of the father of the groom speech is where you give your son advice. This should ideally be near the end of the speech and it should not be too long. Just give a couple of sentences such as "and in your married life remember that your wife is always right and you will never win an argument". If you add something like that it also adds a little humour and it will give the speech a good light-hearted ending.

Overall you want the father of the groom speech to be humorous and emotional. Start by welcoming and complimenting the bride. Next add a little humour with childhood stories, then get emotional and tell your son how proud you are of him before finally ending the speech with a few humorous words about married life. That is definitely the best layout for a father of the groom speech and you are sure to get a round of applause once you have finished!

I have never stayed til the end of a wedding, and I am getting married this fall. Do we give a speech of thanks to everyone at the end of the night, do we wait next to the door and say goodbye to everyone? Basically, how does a wedding typically end?

Neither my husband nor I gave a speech at our wedding. Usually the groom (or bride) gives their thanks speech at the rehearsal dinner to the people involved. As it gets later into the evening, keep an eye on the door to catch people who may be leaving so you can thank them for coming and say goodbye. We stayed until near the end of the reception (I think after the last official song), but we left before the wonderful people who were going to get belongings and the presents loaded.

Funny advice for the groom on his wedding day?

I am the maid of honor and I wanted to make a short list of ‘rules’ to tell the groom, since most of my speech is really serious and full of sappy love stuff (lol). All i have so far is 1) the wife is always right 2) if the wife is wrong refer to rule 1.
Can you please help me come up with a few more????

1)If she’s not happy, nobody is.
2)If she wants something, you get is right away.
3)Don’t even bother arguing with her, you will ALWAYS lose.
